A free and charitable clinic serving the low-income residents of central North Carolina.
Those who go out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with them.
It's so easy to lose perspective, isn't it?
This has been a draining season at Samaritan Health Center. We have changed computer systems. We are down one staff physician (know anyone who wants to join us?). We're hiring for our next nurse (ditto!). We're looking for a dentist and support staff to expand our dental program (send them our way!). We are listening to hard stories, sharing burdens, and always wishing we had more appointments.
I have realized afresh this week how quick I am to become frustrated or impatient with technology, paperwork, and delays in people's responses. But I have also realized that I need to recognize and give thanks for what we DO see happening at Samaritan Health Center, rather than simply wishing it was more!:
a CMDA-led week of outreach in the neighboring apartments last week: multiple activities, disciplines, languages, partners, and people served...
patients attending their specialist appointments in cardiology, dermatology, and orthopedics--this month alone!
the stay-at-home mom who comes in to interpret so our Spanish speaking patients can get eye exams
the Iraqi and American patients who came by on a non-clinic day and thanked Samaritan Health Center for all we do
the volunteer who asked, "Can you please tap me on the shoulder next time so I can pray with the group. I feel like I missed out on an opportunity to be thankful."
patients who are getting health insurance, enrolling in pharmacy assistance programs, and applying for help with specialist costs--all within the first three days of this week
There are many more stories we can't tell you--and on those days we sow weeping, we know that God is still faithful. Besides, we serve as He enables, and as He leads!
We believe in a God who restores and redeems. And when we remind ourselves to look for His work at SHC, it's right there in front of us.

Slow to anger, Rich in love
You are forever, Always forever"
